Is Your Great Dane Happy? Here’s How To Find Out!

Have you ever wondered if your Great Dane was happy? Sometimes it may be hard to tell if your dog is happy or if something is bothering them. Thankfully, there are a few signs that you can look for to help figure out how they’re feeling!

These are some ways that you can tell if your Great Dane is happy and some things that you can do to improve your Great Danes mood. If your Great Dane is not showing any of these signs, they may not be happy, and you should try to do something to see why they are unhappy and see if you can help make them happy.

7 Signs That Your Great Dane Is Happy

These are a few things that your Great Dane may be doing to indicate that they are happy. To begin, look for these common signs.

#1 Your Great Dane is Wagging their tail

A tail wag is a common sign that your Great Dane is happy!

When you walk into the room where your Great Dane is at, and they are wagging their tail or the whole back end of their body, this would be a sign that they are very happy.

#2 Your Great Dane is eating well

If your Great Dane is happy and healthy, they will be eating great.

Not eating is usually a sign that there is something going on with your dog, such as a medical condition or they are not happy.

#3 Your Great Dane is Smiling

While your Great Dane may technically not be smiling, if you look at your Great Dane, and they seem like they are very pleased, they are happy.

This may mean that their eyes are very bright and open wide. They may even have their mouth slightly open and appear to be smiling back at you.

Once you see this expression – you’ll never forget what it means!

#4 Your Great Dane is stretched out right beside you

If your Great Dane is happy, they may lay on the couch and stretch out right beside you.

Many times, if your dog loves you, one sign that they will show is snuggling up right beside you and resting their head on you when they are sleeping.

If they were unhappy, it’s possible that they’d want to be alone in a room away from others.

#5 Your Great Dane is giving you kisses

If your dog is giving you kisses, this is a sign that they are happy and love you! This also shows that they feel great and may want you to play with them.

They may also be licking your face because of something you just ate, so watch out for those sneaky kisses 😉

#6 Your Great Dane is bringing you their toys

If your dog is happy, they may bring you their toys to play with. Oftentimes, sharing their toys with you means that they trust you with their most prized possessions.

This may even be their way of asking you to play with them.

#7 Your Great Dane is running and playing

If your Great Dane is running and playing, they are very happy. A happy dog is going to be very playful and loves to run around.

If your dog is not happy, they will not want to run and play and maybe just sitting and watching other dogs play.

Of course, if they’ve been playing for a while and are simply tired, then taking a break to recover does not mean that they’re all of the sudden an unhappy pup.

#1 Go for a walk

Exercise will help your dog burn excess energy and help boost their mood.

Spending time outside enjoying the sunshine and spending time with your Great Dane will help them be happier.

#2 Throw a ball

If your dog loves to chase a ball, throw a ball for them. Any activity that your dog loves may help boost their mood and help make them much happier.

Some dogs may want to play with a Frisbee or play tug-o-war. Finding your dog’s favorite toy and playing with them will help make them happier.

#3 Offer Them Treats or Food

Most dogs love food and treats. If your dog suddenly seems depressed, you can offer them a treat (list of treat options here). Many times, this will help boost your dog’s mood and help make them happier.

Giving your dog a high-quality, balanced diet will also help them stay happy and healthy. The food that you feed your dog will impact their overall health and happiness.

#4 Spend time with your dog

Even if your dog does not want to play, you can just spend time with them to make them happy. Some dogs will love to just spend time with you, sleeping on the couch and watching TV.

You do not have to spend a lot of energy playing with your dog or taking them for a walk. Most dogs are just happy spending time with you.

Curl up on the couch and watch TV with them will really boost your dog’s mood!

#5 See your vet

If your Great Dane seems like they are still unhappy no matter what you do, it may be time to see your vet. There are some medical issues that could be causing your dog to seem depressed.
